Lectures on the Sl(2,r) Action on Moduli Space
Suppose g ≥ 1, and let α = (α1, . . . , αn) be a partition of 2g− 2, and let H(α) be a stratum of Abelian differentials, i.e. the space of pairs (M,ω) where M is a Riemann surface and ω is a holomorphic 1-form on M whose zeroes have multiplicities α1 . . . αn. The form ω defines a canonical flat metric on M with conical singularities at the zeros of ω. Thus we refer to points of H(α) as flat su...

متن کاملOn the moduli space of semilocal strings and lumps
We study BPS non-abelian semilocal vortices in U(NC) gauge theory with NF flavors, NF > NC, in the Higgs phase. The moduli space for arbitrary winding number is described using the moduli matrix formalism. We find a relation between the moduli spaces of the semilocal vortices in a Seiberg-like dual pairs of theories, U(NC) and U(NF −NC). They are two alternative regularizations of a “parent” no...
متن کاملLectures on Strings and Dualities
In this set of lectures I review recent developments in string theory emphasizing their non-perturbative aspects and their recently discovered duality symmetries. The goal of the lectures is to make the recent exciting developments in string theory accessible to those with no previous background in string theory who wish to join the research effort in this area. Topics covered include a brief r...
متن کاملLes Houches Lectures on Strings and Arithmetic∗
These are lecturenotes for two lectures delivered at the Les Houches workshop on Number Theory, Physics, and Geometry, March 2003. They review two examples of interesting interactions between number theory and string compactification, and raise some new questions and issues in the context of those examples. The first example concerns the role of the Rademacher expansion of coefficients of modul...
